Description

The Paria Bay is a secluded beach which can be accessed by hiking a trail through Blanchisseuse or Matelot or either by boat. The journey however provides a breath-taking view of stacks, arches, caves and other natural formations along the coastline. If hiking tot his beach, it will take you approximately 2 hours from Blanchisseuse Spring Bridge which takes you on a bit of adventure through the North Coast Forest, over uphill climbs and downhill slides then unto the beach. Although some hikers consider the level of hike to be strenuous, it is doable for inexperienced hikers and first timers.

While hiking to the beach, you will come across a 50ft peninsula known as Turtle Rock, which got its name from the green marine turtles that frequent the surrounding Caribbean Sea. The Paria Bay is approximately 1.15 km long and is lined with coconut trees perched over the silky sand which becomes a nesting ground for the Leatherback Turtles from the month's of March to September.

This beach is not ideal for bathing due to the choppy waters, but to the eastern side of the bay in the mouth of the calming waters of the river, one can immerse themselves to relax. On the western side of the beach you will see an arch which is called Cathedral Arch or Paria Arch. These arches were developed by sea erosion but the natural reconstruction is a sight to behold.

Paria is a popular camping location as it is one of the few places where you can experience Trinidad's raw and natural beauty.
