The gorgeous Salybia Bay is situated on the North Eastern side of Trinidad in the fishing village of Salybia. To get there you have to take the Toco main road and turn right at the junction onto Galera Road. Approximately 2 km east of the secondary school is where you would see the bay.
The Salybia Bay has an approximate 700m stretch of whitish-grey sand which greets the the Atlantic waves that comes from the northwest. The western and eastern sides of the beach are sheltered and the waves are broken by surrounding corals of the Salybia Reef. When there is low tides, you can walk out to the flat reef where you will get a fascinating view of marine life, such as hermit crabs and chiton. The flat reef is approximately 90 meters offshore and the depth varies between 1/2 a meter to 2 meters when the tide is low.
Snorkeling can also be done at this beach but thick sneakers should be worn to protect your feet from the fire or stinging corals and you also have to be aware of the rising tides. The bay has a lot of shade so is a great spot for picnics and family gatherings, as you have a picturesque seascape which is the ideal image for a Caribbean getaway and is a lovely background for those who are into taking pictures. Surfing is another activity that can be done here and because of the soft sand camping is another of the activities that is done there.
